Employed cardiothoracic surgeon role leading VAD and heart transplant surgical services at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis, Indiana. The posting emphasises growing transplant and mechanical circulatory support volumes and leading clinical trials, including DCD donor work.
- Setting
- Quaternary 840 bed hospital and Level one trauma center in a nonprofit health system, with a team of 6 cardiac surgeons, including 2 transplant surgeons.
- The work
- Perform and oversee durable and temporary VAD implantation, heart transplantation and complex cardiac surgery; provide strategic and operational oversight of VAD and transplant services; lead transplant and MCS clinical trials.
- Schedule
- Full-Time.
- Call
- 1:3 transplant call and 1:6 primary surgical call.
- Patients
- Advanced heart failure patients; 25+ cardiac transplants and 60+ short- and long-term mechanical circulatory assist devices implanted annually.
- What the pay includes
- Productivity incentives based on RVU / Quality, CME allowance plus 5 dedicated CME days, and malpractice coverage with tail.
- Requirements
- Board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with thoracic surgery fellowship and expertise in VAD and heart transplantation; Indiana license and DEA eligibility; MD or DO. Leadership experience preferred; ALS preferred.
