- Setting
- Inpatient rehab at New Hanover Rehab Hospital, the only inpatient rehabilitation facility in the region; a new 60-private-room facility opens January 2028 at the Orthopedic Hospital campus. Reports to the Neurosciences Institute.
- The work
- Lead inpatient rehabilitation services and provide comprehensive inpatient rehab care, working with hospitalists, 4 APPs, and PT, OT, SLP and nursing staff. Future opportunity to expand into outpatient services.
- Schedule
- Full-time (1.0 FTE), on-site Monday–Friday, 36–40 hours/week.
- Call
- On call for nights/weekends when not on-site, as backup to APPs who serve as first line. Hospitalists available 24/7; an additional PM&R physician is available for backup coverage.
- Patients
- Average daily census 29–31, ~900 admissions annually. About 60% neurological (primarily stroke/CVA), plus amputation, debility and multi-trauma; mainly adults (average age 64) with occasional adolescents (12–17).
- Requirements
- Board certified/eligible in PM&R, with inpatient rehabilitation experience required. Current MD license in the appropriate state and current DEA license required.
